-
Educación y transferencia para el sector turismo.
-
Investigación con foco en ecosistemas australes.
-
Estudios socio-ecológicos de apoyo a toma de decisiones estratégicas.
Equipo
Mission
Generate knowledge and understanding of southern ecosystems, favoring associative research, public-private linking and education for the conservation of the biodiversity of these environments. As well as to promote sustainable management of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems.
Vision
The ICEA Center will contribute to the strengthening of the regional identity and the sustainable development of society in its ecosystem context, through a conservation plan for natural areas that allows us to create a natural legacy for future generations.
Objetive
To consolidate scientific research in marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments for establishing effective and ethical conservation measures in austral ecosystems.
To achieve our goal, we will focus on four programs:
-
Education and transfer to tourism.
-
Research focusing on southern ecosystems.
-
Management and governance of Protected Areas.
-
Socio-ecological studies to support strategic decision making.

BUSINESS SCIENCE LINKAGE PROGRAM IN PATAGONIA
This Program is part of an innovative initiative that unites science with private companies through a program that has been funded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research of Chile, currently the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID).
The ICEA Center and the private company, represented by the Holding Company COMAPA S.A, Austro Chile A.G., Association of Local Guides of Puerto Natales A.G., Association of Local Guides of Punta Arenas A.G., Association of Hotels and Tourist Services of Paine A.G. They form a strong and reciprocal link between the productive sector of tourism and the scientific community.
A double-sided associative link: (1) the delivery of "science" to the company, and (2) the return of "the company" to science.
01
DELIVERY FROM SCIENCE TO BUSINESS
The local scientific transfer, through training to nature guides that updates and expands the account of the regional natural history that the guides offer to tourist visitors.
02
THE RETURN FROM BUSINESS TO SCIENCE
The researchers train nature guides (company) during their activities, to collect data on-site, using scientific monitoring protocols, an action that in turn gives a sustainability character to these investigations.
SCIENTIFIC MONITORING
Researchers from the ICEA Center and associated institutions train nature guides during the regular operations offered by our Associated Companies (Australis, HYST and Austro Chile) to establish long-term scientific monitoring.
These monitoring will constitute the most extensive data network in the country and will allow us to develop tourist routes with scientific content in the macrozone of fjords and channels of Patagonia, generating added value to the regional tourism offer.
